Frequently asked questions.

What services do you offer?

Individual virtual psychotherapy services for adults living in California.

Do you only offer virtual therapy sessions?

Currently, I am only offering virtual therapy sessions.

Do I have to be in California to be in therapy with you?

Yes, currently I am only licensed in the state of California, which only allows me to provide treatment to people living in the state of California.

What is your fee?

Online Individual Therapy Sessions (50 minutes) are $225.

Payment methods: Zelle, check, credit cards. Payment is completed at the end of each session.

Do you take insurance?

Yes, I do take insurance. I accept the following insurance plans: Aetna, Oxford, Quest Behavioral Health & United Healthcare.

I can also provide a Superbill (billing statement) for your insurance for people that prefer to pay out of pocket. When speaking to your insurance, you can explain that I am an out-of-network provider, and you can ask your insurance, “Do you reimburse for an out-of-network provider?”. If yes, you can ask them “How much do you reimburse?”. Insurance reimbursement can range from 40%-80%, it will just depend on your insurance company and your insurance plan. You will be able to submit the monthly billing statement (Superbill) I provide to you to your insurance company for reimbursement.

What type of things do you work on in therapy?

I work with people that want support for several different life circumstances such as anxiety, depression, work stress, relationship challenges, social anxiety, anger issues, sexual difficulties, life transitions, LGBTQ+ challenges, racial challenges, self-esteem/identity struggles, and people that want to live a more fulfilling life. The goal is to help you make changes that allow you to live and function at your highest potential.

Some people’s goals are concrete things like decreasing the impact of anxiety or depression on their quality of life/ability to function, or to improve things like sleep, diet, exercise, self-esteem or relationships. Other people want to focus on getting information related to their mental health or get a better understanding of the causes of their mental health symptoms. Some people want to develop skills/techniques to help manage stress. There are also people that are looking for a safe place to feel heard and be able to talk about/process stress, trauma, and difficult relationships. Therapy can be a safe space to talk about things like shame, guilt, embarrassment, regret and other experiences that can weigh heavy on your mind or that can be difficult to talk with others about.

How long is a therapy session?

Online individual therapy sessions are 50 minutes.

How Frequent are therapy sessions?

The frequency of therapy sessions can vary, but in the beginning, it is helpful to meet weekly to establish rapport and build a relationship with your therapist. Consistency is a major factor in the success of therapy, especially at the beginning of the therapy process.  Most people meet weekly, but there is also flexibility to meet bi-weekly, depending on your needs and preference. With that being said, I will advocate for people to meet more or less frequently depending on the nature of their needs.

How long do I need to be in therapy for?

Short-term work is considered 8 to 12 sessions. People looking for short-term treatment tend to be looking to learn coping skills or have specific goals that can be reached in a brief amount of time. Long-term work can last a year to several years depending on the support needed and the goals of therapy. People looking for more long-term treatment usually are looking to work on deep trauma or wanting to use therapy as a form of self-care, self-discovery and maintenance. Some people return to therapy on an as-needed basis if new stressors develop.

During your first session we will establish your therapy goals. Once you have felt you have reached your therapy goals, I will support you if you choose to discontinue therapy. Therapy should only continue if we both feel it is necessary. If your goals change during our treatment, we can discuss adjusting therapy to work on your new goals. Additionally, some people like open-ended therapy because they find it beneficial to help cope with life stressors and to continue personal growth.

Most people discontinue therapy when they feel their life is going in the direction that feels good, they have developed skills/techniques that help them make the necessary changes they want, and when they feel they have gained beneficial insight/wisdom into their lives. I also make myself available for maintenance sessions if someone wants to return to therapy after treatment has ended.

What happens during the free consultation?

Consultations can be done either over the phone or over video chat. They are free and typically take around 15-20 minutes. During the consultation, we will discuss why are you seeking therapy at this time, address any questions or concerns you might have, and what kind of therapy/therapist you are interested in. Finding the right therapist is an important part of therapy, and if it feels like we are a good fit during our consultation, we will continue by scheduling our first session together.

What is your cancellation policy?

There is a 24-hour notice cancellation policy. If you do not give at least a 24-hour notice of cancellation of your appointment or if you do not show up for your appointment, you will be charged the full session fee. I am reasonably flexible regarding unforeseen circumstances and hold the right to wave the late/no show cancellation fee on a case-by-case basis.

Because consistency is one of the most important factors in therapy success, if numerous cancellations become a pattern, we will have a conversation about ending therapy until you are able to attend therapy consistently.
